In- Service Exam
- The Annual National Neurosurgery In-Service Examination is offered the first week in March. It is a four-hour proctored computer-based examination. There are 200 questions from all aspects of neurosurgery, including radiology and pathology images. There are 10 categories and 100 subcategories. Each examination is tested for psychometric soundness. The results are sent to the Program Director for review and distribution to residents. Passing the National In-Service Examination does not allow residents to bypass the written AOBS certification examination. Instead the Annual National Neurosurgery In-Service Examination provides the resident with a means to monitor performance in over 80 areas of neurosurgery.
